Special Investigations

The Special Investigations Section is committed to providing specialized investigations
and assistance to law enforcement and the public.

The Special Investigations Section handles the majority of fraud and major-crime investigations conducted by the Department of Public Safety. In 2008 the Special Investigations Section opened 255 cases that have resulted in 127 arrests and prosecutions. These investigations included:

• Suspicious Death and Cold Case Homicides
• Officer Involved Shooting
• Sexual Assault
• Threats Against the State Capital
• Mortgage and Financial Fraud
• Identity Theft
• Burglary and Theft of State Property

Special Investigations also assists Local, State, and Federal Law Enforcement agencies when requested and participates in several State and Federal Task Forces.
